About The Position

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading non-profit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the West Milford Weekend Manager provides full-site leadership during weekend operations, ensuring all department function cohesively, safely, and aligns with YMCA values. Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience required
  • Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification
  • Current certification in First Aid
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the YMCA and its capacity to build strong kids, families, and communities. The ability to articulate and model the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honestly, Respect and Responsibilities are essential
  • Flexibility to adjust in a changing environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, attention to detail, problem-solving and analytical skills. Able to plan, organize, and implement projects and follow up as required

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior decision-maker on-site during assigned shifts
  • Coordinate all departments (e.g., membership, recreation, waterfront, maintenance, security) to ensure seamless operations
  • Manage staffing levels in real time and reassign staff based on attendance, emergencies, or operational gaps
  • Conduct opening/closing procedures including facility walkthroughs and readiness checks
  • Provide direct supervision to weekend leads and indirect oversight to all staff
  • Address performance concerns immediately through coaching and documentation
  • Reinforce YMCA values through visible leadership and staff engagement
  • Ensure staff are following dress code, safety expectations, and member service standards
  • Act as incident commander during emergencies
  • Ensure compliance with NJ Youth protection standards and YMCA safety protocols
  • Review and complete incident/accident reports
  • Conduct periodic safety walkthroughs across all areas
  • Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
  • Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk. Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers and require them to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the Y’s disciplinary procedures and respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Communicate to all employees and volunteers the Y’s commitment to protect our members from abuse.
  • Actively engage with members and guests to promote a welcoming environment
  • Resolve escalated complaints professionally and promptly
  • Support membership growth by reinforcing program awareness
