About The Position

Mental Health Connecticut (MHC) is seeking a full-time Wellness Specialist II for their Independence Center in the Waterbury area. This role involves providing skill-building opportunities in various areas such as health and wellness, cooking, cleaning, advocacy, employment, social/community engagement, daily living skills, art, and gardening within a recovery resource center and residential environments. The position also includes case management services for program participants at the Independence Center.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and registration.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a mental health or human services setting preferred.
• Experience in supportive arts programming preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day program support including front desk coverage, answering calls, supervising the buzzer system, greeting participants and visitors, orienting participants to the center, scheduling, data collection, managing the culinary unit (including grant-related needs), maintaining cleanliness, obtaining supplies, and monitoring the computer lab while teaching computer literacy skills.
• Design and implement workshops and activities based on participant choices and interests to improve skills in physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental health, covering topics like nutrition, art, gardening, coping, fitness, budgeting, assertiveness, building friendships, conversation skills, leisure time, advocacy, community supports, and improving personal communication.
• Complete accurate and timely documentation (workshops, interactions, case management) in the organization’s electronic health record (EHR), including encounter notes, attendance, and other required paperwork.
• Demonstrate routine and consistent ability to travel statewide to conduct and assist with assigned workshop programming.
• Transport program supplies (weighing approximately 5 to 30 pounds), and/or other foodbank, kitchen, and art of wellbeing materials in a personal or company vehicle locally and within the state to MHC residential sites.
• Develop and maintain cooperative, professional relationships with program participants, other staff, and community agencies or partners to facilitate grant-related programs.
• May provide case management and referral services to program participants at the Independence Center.
• Maintain an assigned caseload supporting approximately 30+ participants, including ensuring releases, updates, confirming receipt of services, and other protocol acknowledgements.
• Engage participants in activities and participation, including conducting outreach calls at least once per month for individuals on the assigned caseload who have not been attending.
• May be assigned ancillary caseloads or assignments as needed.
• May be required to transport participants in a personally owned vehicle.
