About The Position

The Wellness Sales Specialist creates meaningful connections between YMCA members and the wellness services that can help them achieve their goals. This highly visible, member-facing position actively engages people throughout the wellness floor, identifies individual needs and connects members to personal training, partner and small group training, physical therapy, wellness coaching, workshops, clinics and other YMCA programs. The Specialist supports membership integration by helping new and existing members understand how to use the wellness spaces, equipment, programs and professional services available to them. The role builds relationships, conducts follow-up, supports service enrollment and helps members remain engaged throughout their fitness, health and wellness journey.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within the required timeframe.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, organization and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to confidently initiate conversations and recommend services through a supportive, consultative approach.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and professional disciplines.
  • Ability to use registration, scheduling, customer-relationship-management and reporting systems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings or weekends based on member and branch needs.
  • Commitment to the YMCA mission, core values, inclusion and community service.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional education in fitness, wellness, recreation, healthcare, hospitality, sales or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in fitness, wellness, customer service, membership, hospitality, sales or community engagement preferred.
  • Knowledge of personal training, wellness programming and physical therapy services preferred.
  • Nationally recognized personal-training, group-exercise, wellness-coaching or related credential preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an active and approachable presence throughout the wellness space, welcome members, answer questions, provide basic equipment guidance and create a safe, supportive and engaging environment.
  • Build relationships with members, learn about their goals, challenges and interests, and identify appropriate opportunities for additional coaching, programming or professional support.
  • Promote personal training, partner training and small group training through relationship-based conversations, consultations, goal reviews and service recommendations.
  • Educate members about available physical therapy services and facilitate appropriate introductions, referrals and appointments while respecting clinical boundaries and allowing licensed providers to determine treatment needs.
  • Partner with Membership and front-desk teams to connect new members to wellness orientations, Jump Starts, assessments, personal training, physical therapy and other appropriate YMCA services.
  • Coordinate and support educational workshops, movement clinics, equipment demonstrations, wellness presentations and introductory program experiences that increase confidence, participation and awareness.
  • Follow up with members after orientations, consultations, workshops, referrals and service introductions to ensure they understand their next steps and remain connected to YMCA resources.
  • Maintain accurate records of member conversations, leads, referrals, appointments, enrollments and follow-up activities in approved YMCA systems.
  • Support branch campaigns, wellness challenges, personal-training promotions, physical-therapy outreach, special events and new-program launches.
  • Work closely with Wellness Performance Directors, personal trainers, physical therapists, wellness attendants, Membership, Group Exercise, Aquatics and other branch teams to provide a connected member experience.
  • Monitor the wellness floor for cleanliness, equipment readiness, member concerns and unsafe conditions and communicate issues promptly to the appropriate leader.

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of participants by maintaining professional boundaries, completing required abuse-risk-management training, following procedures for supervision and high-risk activities, reporting suspicious or inappropriate conduct and adhering to mandated-reporting requirements.
  • Serve as a leader in branch fundraising activities for the Annual Support Campaign, including the solicitation of funds to support financial assistance, military family initiatives, community outreach, and branch goals and objectives.
