About The Position

The YMCA's focus is to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Wellness Director is responsible for advancing the overall Association Healthy Living programs, including Group Exercise, overseeing the Health Coach team, fitness floor operations, and evidence-based programs such as Livestrong and Defeat PD. This role supports the organization’s strategic vision and mission by creating a premier member experience, including new member orientations and onboarding into wellness programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in Wellness Programming with the teen, and adult population.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Proven Management ability in budget or finance and staff management and development.
  • Ability to work successfully in a highly flexible and rapidly changing work environment as well as work weekends.
  • Effective written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with individuals and groups.
  • Strong ability to manage programs aligning with delivery of the YMCA's mission.
  • Candidate must possess a valid personal training certification from a nationally recognized organization such as NASM, ACE, or ACSM.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Science, Recreation or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and direction for a variety of branch healthy living programs and services for the community, including wellness promotion, risk reduction, and support for those with chronic diseases.
  • Oversees Group Exercise, the Health Coach team, fitness floor operations, and evidence-based programs such as Livestrong and Defeat PD.
  • Promotes, supports, directs, and educates staff, members, and community participants on the benefits of participating in key healthy living programs to maximize the health and well-being of the community, improve revenue potential, and increase member retention.
  • Manages a high-performing staff team by building relationships to ensure the delivery of quality programs and services for all.
  • Works closely with the branch management team on innovative approaches in program development and impact measurement.
  • Utilizes actionable information and data to continuously drive improvement and implement plans to achieve desired goals and objectives of Health and Wellness.
  • Onboards, trains, develops, and supervises wellness staff.
  • Ensures a high level of expertise in healthy lifestyle programs, equipment, and customer service initiatives, enhancing the member, guest, and program participant experience and satisfaction.
  • Serves as a member of the branch management team, performing specific duties that support the overall success of branch operations.
  • Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening tools to screen for abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with children and teens.
  • Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
