This role involves developing and modifying programs and processes for robotic, automatic, and semi-automatic welding systems, ensuring adherence to company quality policies. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Associate's degree in Welding Technology (or related field) OR completion of a college-based or apprenticeship-based Welding program OR Welding Certification OR 7 years of equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of welding fundamentals with practical welding experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot automated welding applications.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance (PM) on weld fixtures, weld cells, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Proficiency with interpreting part prints and welding codes/specifications.
  • Ability to interpret CMM layouts or possess the willingness to learn.
  • Computer Literacy.
  • An excellent work record, including attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Create, modify, and document Fanuc welding and resistance programs, maintaining essential welding parameters.
  • Create weld data, torch angles, "stick-out", starting techniques, and other robotic/welding variables as necessary.
  • Create, modify, and document programs for Fronius and Lincoln welding equipment to meet customer specifications.
  • Create, modify, and document programs for end forming equipment/tooling (sizers) to meet gage or CMM requirements.
  • Create, modify, and document programs for leak testing equipment/tooling to meet required leak rates.
  • Document and maintain welding parameters on the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) with assistance from the Welding Engineer.
  • Validate process parameters and enter system deviations when applicable.
  • Analyze and determine proper weld sequence for cycle time and part dimensional improvements.
  • Read and interpret welding codes/specifications on part prints to ensure quality.
  • Interpret weld cross sections and etching samples, taking appropriate corrective action.
  • Perform manual welds as needed to support production.
  • Set up and verify error proofing according to instructions.
  • Analyze gage and CMM data to adjust weld fixture details for dimensional accuracy.
  • Assist and train operators and welders in determining weld quality using calipers, visual inspection, and destruct tests.
  • Oversee the weld department in the team leader's absence.
  • Provide leadership and technical support for 5S and lean objectives.
  • Provide training/mentorship for Weld Technician 1 apprentices.
  • Assist in departmental measurable goals related to customer concerns, cost of quality, cost savings, safety, and on-time PPAPs.
  • Cross-train on other equipment and welding departments and processes.
  • Assist the Welding Engineer in data collection for continuous improvement.
  • Support the Tool Room on preventative maintenance (PM) for weld fixtures.
  • Perform PMs on weld cells and auxiliary equipment.
  • Provide suggestions for improving preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Assist in the design, build, installation, and start-up of weld cells/fixtures, size machine/tools, leak test machine/tools, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Complete equipment changeovers according to instructions for weld fixtures, size tools, leak test tools, poka yokes, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Utilize EAM to document time spent on CMs and PMs.
  • Set up and troubleshoot automated welding applications.
  • Provide assistance to error-proofing processes through 8D problem-solving.
  • Support "End of Runs" by working with Tool Room and Machine Operators to address issues.
  • Maintain weld equipment and processes to OSHA, MIOSHA, and Pridgeon & Clay standards.
  • Create programs for Fanuc Systems.
  • Participate in lean initiatives such as continuous improvement events, and identify and eliminate waste.
  • Organize and maintain efficiency of personal work area and 5S zone.
  • Effectively communicate with co-workers and management.
  • Provide necessary, accurate, and timely feedback.
