About The Position

Hollister-Whitney, a leading manufacturer of elevator components and systems, is seeking a skilled Welder to join our manufacturing team in Quincy, Illinois. This position is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and welding a variety of elevator components and related products in accordance with engineering drawings, quality standards, and safety requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong welding skills, the ability to read blueprints, and a commitment to producing high-quality work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Successful candidates will demonstrate attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a dedication to workplace safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous welding experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
  • Experience operating welding and fabrication equipment.
  • Ability to use measuring instruments and perform basic shop math.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical work throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS Welding Certification.
  • Experience with MIG and TIG welding.
  • Experience working in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.

Responsibilities

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, work orders, engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • Setting up and operating welding equipment to fabricate and assemble metal components.
  • Performing MIG, TIG, and other welding processes as required.
  • Preparing materials for welding through cutting, grinding, fitting, and alignment.
  • Welding components in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions as required.
  • Inspecting completed welds to ensure compliance with quality and workmanship standards.
  • Using measuring devices such as tape measures, calipers, squares, and gauges to verify dimensions.
  • Operating hand tools, power tools, grinders, and other fabrication equipment safely and effectively.
  • Identifying and correcting welding defects and reworking parts as necessary.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Following all company safety procedures, quality standards, and manufacturing processes.
  • Assisting with continuous improvement initiatives and process enhancements.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
