About The Position

This role oversees the efficient flow of product in the welding/robot weld department, ensuring component parts, containers, and production supplies are readily available to prevent line stoppages. The position is responsible for product quality and workmanship, assisting in the development and implementation of corrective actions to improve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The lead assigns work according to the daily production schedule, making adjustments as needed, and anticipates potential production delays, material shortages, or equipment malfunctions, implementing procedures to mitigate their impact. This role also involves communicating necessary equipment repairs to minimize downtime, monitoring safety devices and equipment, maintaining departmental housekeeping, and ensuring constant vigilance for hazardous conditions and proper safety behaviors. Additionally, the lead ensures accurate completion of paperwork for process tracking, quality support, and continuous improvement, assists with Operator training, and initiates communication with appropriate personnel for production or quality issues. The position works with the department supervisor to maintain compliance with company policies and procedures, participates in disciplinary measures, provides input on employee performance and training, and serves as a backup to the Operations Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School degree or GED.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with previous leadership experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee efficient flow of product, ensuring component parts, containers, and production supplies are always at the line to eliminate any line stoppage.
  • Responsible for product quality and workmanship of the department.
  • Assist with developing and implementing corrective actions that will drive positive KPI performance.
  • Assign work based on the daily production schedule and make adjustments as requested by supervisors and planners.
  • Anticipate production delays, material shortages, equipment malfunctions, etc., and implement procedures to offset loss of labor hours and schedule interruptions.
  • Communicate necessary repairs of equipment to avoid excessive downtime.
  • Monitor use of safety devices, equipment, departmental housekeeping, and maintain constant alert for hazardous conditions.
  • Ensure proper safety behaviors are being followed.
  • Ensure appropriate paperwork is properly completed for effective process tracking to support Quality and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assist mentors with Operator training as needed.
  • Initiate communication with appropriate personnel when external input/help is needed on production or quality issues.
  • Work with department supervisor to maintain conformance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in disciplinary measures as appropriate.
  • Provide input on employee performance and training opportunities.
  • Serve as a back up to the Operations Supervisor as needed.
