SGS is currently looking for a Welding/Mechanical Inspector for some contract work in Casper, Wyoming and San Diego, CA. This is not a full-time contract but some intermittent quality assurance work which will vary based on the projects. This project will start in June 2026. The role is responsible for inspecting, testing, and evaluating weld processes, welding, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, Expansion joints, and related equipment to ensure compliance with applicable codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. This includes verifying compliance with ASME, API, NBIC, Federal, state & Local regulations, performing quality document reviews including WPS / PQR, assessing quality, and issuing reports or recommendations for corrective actions to ensure the safety and structural integrity of welded components. The inspector will also be responsible for inspecting welds, reviewing welding procedures, and conducting visual and dimensional inspections, examining completed welds for size, quality, and conformance to standards. Additionally, the role involves performing in-service inspections, turnaround inspections, and risk-based inspections (RBI), conducting visual inspections of welded joints, checking dimensions, penetration, and bead formation, and witnessing non-destructive testing (NDT) and interpreting/verifying results. The inspector will perform visual inspection on the quality of welding and mechanical projects, prepare detailed reports documenting inspection results, including any issues found, observe welders and preheating procedures, record inspection results and any non-conformities, and investigate non-conformities by identifying causes and assisting in corrective actions. Effective communication with welders, engineers, and other personnel is essential.
