About The Position

Join BAE Systems, a leading innovator in defense products and services, as a Welding Manufacturing Engineer. This role supports welding operations and production of large complex assemblies, offering a unique work-life balance with a 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off). You will develop and implement processes for fabrication, testing, and weld integrity, collaborate cross-functionally, analyze NDT reports, research weld equipment and automation, and conduct weld engineering analysis. This position requires regular presence in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, including navigating production areas with potential physical demands and adhering to safety protocols and PPE requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Weld Engineering, Weld Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or related discipline and 6 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Excellent understanding of welding specifications such as AWS, ASME, or NAVSEA.
  • Experience with welding processes such as SAW, GMAW, SMAW, and GTAW.
  • Strong technical skills in Weld Engineering with ability to analyze and resolve complex engineering challenges.
  • Working knowledge of NDT inspection techniques, processes, and interpretation of results.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification with AWS as a CWI or NDT Level II or III certification.
  • Experience in heavy fabrication, manufacturing, and capital project implementation.
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA T9074-AD-GIB-010/1688 and NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 requirements.
  • Experience with digital introduction on equipment for weld parameter tracking and automation.
  • Previous experience with digital introduction on equipment for weld parameter tracking.
  • Defense contractor experience.
  • Prior experience with automation such as cobots or articulating robots.
  • Experience reviewing supplier capability and suitability to provide acceptable product and comply with government specifications.
  • Experience addressing non-conformances and assisting in Root Cause and Corrective Action activities.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement detailed work documentation, such as routings and work instructions, that enable weld personnel to execute welding tasks with precision and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement cutting-edge processes for fabrication, testing, and weld integrity.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with multiple teams to drive operational excellence and innovation.
  • Analyze NDT inspection reports and data to identify root causes and develop effective repair plans.
  • Research and recommend state-of-the-art weld equipment and automation solutions to eliminate defects and enhance consistency.
  • Conduct in-depth weld engineering analysis of materials and procedures to qualify weld procedures and performance.
  • Leverage expertise in metallurgy, material weldability, welding robotics, and programming to improve existing processes and create new ones.
