The Welding Lead provides technical and operational leadership while performing advanced MIG and TIG welding on close‑tolerance weldments in accordance with AWS standards. This role leads and mentors welding technicians, oversees complex fabrication and assembly activities, and drives quality, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives. By interpreting detailed blueprints, managing weld schedules, resolving build and equipment issues, and ensuring compliance with GD&T and safety requirements, the Welding Lead ensures high‑quality production and reliable manufacturing performance.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical skills and advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and written instructions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and external customers.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality focused.
  • Advanced computer skills; previous experience with macros a plus department and production needs.
  • Proficient in software installation and diagnostic applications.
  • Expert level computer skills.
  • Ability to operate hand/air tools & electric grinders
  • Strong understanding of MIG/TIG welding
  • Associate’s degree from a technical school or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in the production of ultra-clean gas lines and sub-assemblies; previous leadership experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a team of technicians, including delivery of performance feedback and managing work plans, while fostering quality initiatives that enable continuous process improvements.
  • Provides leadership and direction to other technicians within the assigned department or facility.
  • Performs complex assembly encompassing multiple variables to achieve root cause analysis and problem resolution for building plans that are unclear.
  • Evaluates and improves complex assembly plans using conceptual descriptions and ideas.
  • Generates and manages charts, presentations, control documents and action item lists for production use.
  • Performs leak detection on gas lines, valve assemblies, valve manifolds and welded assemblies.
  • Reworks gas lines needing modification per specification or revision change.
  • Creates and implements weld schedules.
  • Demonstrates understanding and proper use of the following: leak detection equipment, tube preparation methods, calipers, manual tube cutters, dimensional tolerances, weld shrinkage, tacking methods, isometric drawings, purge and restriction methods, straightening techniques, small/large radius tube benders, and methods for oxidation free welds.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and perform repairs if needed.
  • Completes the tear down and rebuild of equipment in the event of malfunction.
  • Follows all safety rules and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Interprets complex blueprints, manufacturing drawings, and written work instructions.
  • Must interpret AWS welding symbols.
  • Must understand GD&T.
  • Attendance is an essential job function.
