About The Position

This position reports to the Welding Supervisor and is solely accountable for the fulfillment of all assigned duties, with authority delegated commensurate with assigned responsibilities. The Welding Lead is responsible for supervising the welding team's work quality, productivity, and attendance. This role oversees the operations of the welding area, ensuring employees follow company policies and procedures. The Lead may be required to cover a vacant position during staffing shortages and is charged with safeguarding team operations without incident and with minimal downtime. The supervisor is responsible for training, mentoring, and developing welding department employees, and assisting in process improvement projects and enhancements. The role involves pulling and welding parts to print or specifications, ensuring correct product labeling, and verifying that non-conforming material is removed daily. The Lead is accountable for corrective action within their area of responsibility and has the authority to shut down production for quality and product-related issues. They provide training to new employees in welding and machine operation (nut, drill, tap, press), and ensure work areas are kept neat, clean, and adhere to company safety rules and policies. Responsibilities extend to production areas including welding, screw nut machine, screw line, lower press, and paint takeoff line, as well as any additional assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Solid leadership aptitude and abilities to create and maintain a good teamwork environment.
  • High School diploma or GED certificate.
  • Minimum of two years of on-the-job experience.
  • Ability to learn the current ERP system.
  • Ability to positively mentor others on the team.
  • Must pass requirement for company visual and penetration standards as determined by supervision.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Welding certification.
  • Microsoft Office knowledge and work experience: Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Understanding of JOST’s Basic Processes.
  • Ability to gain knowledge of company products and company quality procedures.
  • Good interpersonal and excellent communication skills.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Highly dependable, motivated and self-driven with excellent attendance.
  • Ability to follow, understand and strictly abide by the Work Instructions (WI).
  • High level of attention to detail in all work required.
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing setting.
  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to; walk, stand, see, hear, use hands, reach, stoop, bend, twist, and occasionally will be required to repetitively lift or move objects which weigh a minimum of 5# pounds to a maximum 51# pounds with or without assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising the welding team employees’ work quality, productivity, and attendance.
  • Overseeing the operations of the welding area and ensuring employees follow proper company policies and procedures.
  • Covering vacant positions during staffing shortages.
  • Safeguarding team operations without incident and with minimal down time.
  • Training, mentoring, and development of the welding department employees.
  • Assisting in process improvement projects and enhancements.
  • Meeting with the Production Manager and Supervisor daily to review scrap materials.
  • Issuing welding supplies as needed.
  • Delegating authority to welders in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Allocating personnel to other jobs as required.
  • Assuming supervisor responsibilities in their absence and coordinating with the production manager to assure the department runs to its fullest capability.
  • Pulling and welding parts to print or specifications.
  • Ensuring that products are labeled correctly.
  • Verifying that all non-conforming material have been removed daily to designated area at the end of the shift.
  • Implementing corrective action within their area of responsibility.
  • Shutting down production for quality and product related issues.
  • Providing training to new employees in welding and machine operation (nut, drill, tap, press).
  • Ensuring that the welding work areas are kept in a neat and clean manner.
  • Ensuring that company safety rules and policies are followed in their area of responsibility.
  • Overseeing production areas including welding, screw nut machine, screw line, lower press and paint takeoff line.
  • Performing any additional duties that may be assigned and those that are logically and properly inherent to this position.
