About The Position

This is a part-time continuing staff position responsible for supporting the welding and metal fabrication labs. The role involves being the first point of contact for equipment issues, performing maintenance and repairs, managing inventory, preparing equipment for classes, and assisting faculty and students. The position also includes training and overseeing lab assistants and potentially assisting with faculty development seminars.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or higher in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience teaching welding and metal fabrication.
  • Familiarity with best practices in the teaching of skilled trades and CTE.
  • Knowledge of basic welding tools, methods, and supplies needed to maintain and test equipment.
  • Skills in operating, calibrating, and maintaining mechanical, electrical, and industrial equipment and tools.
  • Skills in reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, circuit diagrams, and specifications.
  • Skills in gas and arc welding and brazing.
  • Skills in communicating and working effectively with faculty and students.
  • Ability to learn and properly apply departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment and circuit problems.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal working relationships.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring heavy physical activity, including standing and frequently lifting over 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • CTE teaching licensure or certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for instructors and students regarding equipment usage and issues in the welding and metal fabrication labs.
  • Calibrate, repair, and maintain welding equipment, metal fabrication equipment, saws, and air handling systems.
  • Develop and implement a scheduled maintenance and testing program for lab equipment.
  • Maintain inventory records of welding laboratory equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Ship, receive, inspect, and maintain records of equipment sent for servicing.
  • Prepare equipment, materials, and experiments for lab classes.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design, build, test, install, and adapt special equipment for instructional needs.
  • Write specifications and order necessary materials and supplies.
  • Assist students with project setup under faculty direction.
  • Coordinate with faculty for the acquisition, filing, and maintenance of reference materials, operating manuals, parts catalogs, and equipment specifications.
  • Perform tasks to support the daily operation of the labs, including training, scheduling, and overseeing lab assistants and workers.
  • Prepare equipment, operating, and lab experiment manuals and provide technical assistance.
  • Assist faculty in the development of lab activities.
  • Potentially assist with or deliver seminars for part-time faculty on topics such as gradebook management, activity development, and syllabus writing.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Hourly salary of $20.94 at grade 8A of the staff salary schedule.
