About The Position

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College is seeking a Part-Time Welding Instructor to join their Advanced Manufacturing and Skilled Trades department. This role is integral to the college's mission of providing high-quality learning opportunities to students when, where, and how they want it. The instructor will be responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering instruction and assessment of learning outcomes, utilizing engaging strategies to foster student success. They will also advise and support students as a mentor, maintain accurate student records, and provide educational leadership. The position requires maintaining Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and any necessary licensure for program accreditation, as well as complying with college policies. The role involves a course emphasis on Blueprint Reading, Welding (Cutting, Visual Inspection, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, Flux Core), Metal Fabrication, and Metallurgy. Additional duties include providing educational leadership for recruiting and public relations, working with advisory committees and community groups, managing the classroom and shop/lab with preventative maintenance and safety modifications, and working to provide clear Welding pathways and partnerships with secondary education. Instructors will also provide instruction and technical support to NWTC Corporate Training and Economic Development, and give feedback to students based on weldment inspection and assessment according to code.

Requirements

  • A Technical Diploma OR State of Wisconsin Journey-worker's certificate, plus five years direct occupational experience.
  • At a minimum, occupational experience has to have occurred at least 1 year within the last 5 years.
  • Employment is conditional on the completion of a background check and drug test with acceptable results.
  • Pass four 6G pipe tests per NWTC standard within first year of employment (may only teach processes after 6G pipe test successfully passed).
  • Enroll in CWI classes within first six months if not credentialed as a CWI.
  • No instructor shall teach a class unless they have work experience or have successfully passed classes on said subject since hiring.

  • Ability to move around the campus to attend meetings and events. In addition, must be able to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery. May be required to work from lifts, ladders, and scaffolding.
  • Proficiency in using hands and fingers to handle or operate office equipment, tools, controls, and/or heavy equipment and machinery. Capability to push, pull, and/or maneuver equipment as needed.
  • To wear and work in personnel protective equipment as needed.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to read documents and communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience with adult learners is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation.
  • Complying with College policies and practices related to instruction, assessment, and delivery.
  • Course emphasis will be on Blueprint Reading, Welding (Cutting, Visual Inspection, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, Flux Core), Metal Fabrication and Metallurgy.
  • Provide educational leadership, including recruiting and public relation's opportunities, work effectively with applicable advisory committees, community groups, faculty, administration, and campus support staff including (CTED) Corporate Training and Economic Development to perform contract work.
  • Manage classroom and shop/lab by performing preventative maintenance on all equipment. This includes updating guards and safety modifications per OSHA regulations which ensure a productive and safe learning environment.
  • Work to provide clear Welding pathways and subsequent partnerships with secondary education.
  • Provide instruction and technical support to NWTC Corporate Training and Economic Development.
  • Instructors will provide feedback to students based on their inspection and assessment of student weldments in accordance to code.
