Welding Inspectors - Short Term Contract - Fort McMurray
About The Position
SGS is currently looking for Welding Inspectors for short term contracts in Fort McMurray. This role is responsible for inspecting, testing, and evaluating weld processes, welding, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and related equipment to ensure compliance with applicable codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. The work involves material verification, supervision of dimensional checks, collection and verification of documentation against ITP, and quality document reviews. The inspector will assess quality, issue reports or recommendations for corrective actions, inspect welds, review welding procedures, and conduct visual and dimensional inspections. They will examine completed welds for size, quality, and conformance to standards, witness non-destructive testing (NDT) and interpret/verify results, and witness/verify PWHT and pressure testing. The role also includes visual inspection on the quality of welding and mechanical projects, preparing detailed reports, observing welders and preheating procedures, recording inspection results and non-conformities, and investigating non-conformities by identifying causes and assisting in corrective actions. Effective communication with welders, engineers, and other personnel is essential.
Requirements
- CWB Level 2 (minimum)
- Five to ten (5 - 10) years industrial welding-related inspection experience.
- Five (5) of these years should be in Turnaround / shutdowns / site work / Quality Assurance / vendor surveillance / shop inspections
- Industrial experience in Oil & gas / Power & Utility / Construction / Manufacturing, etc..
- Experienced in inspecting welds on various manufactured products eg. pipelines, expansion joints, pressure vessels, heat exchangers and other equipment
- Experienced in witnessing NDE test (UT, PT, MT, RT, etc..) and verifying test reports.
- All of the typical industry training (Confined space, fall pro, CSO, etc)
- Subject to drug screening.
- Authorized to work in Canada.
Responsibilities
- Inspecting, testing, and evaluating weld processes, welding, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and related equipment to ensure compliance with applicable codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Material verification.
- Supervision of Dimensional checks.
- Collection & verification of documentation against ITP.
- Quality document reviews including WPS / PQR, assessment of quality, and issue reports or recommendations for corrective actions to ensure the safety and structural integrity of welded components.
- Inspecting welds, reviewing welding procedures, and conducting visual and dimensional inspections.
- Examining completed welds for size, quality, and conformance to standards.
- Witness non-destructive testing (NDT) and interpret / verify results.
- Witness & verify PWHT (if applicable) & pressure testing.
- Visual inspection on the quality of welding and mechanical projects.
- Prepare detailed reports documenting inspection results, including any issues found.
- Observing welders and preheating procedures.
- Recording inspection results and any non-conformities.
- Investigating Non-Conformities i.e. identifying causes and assisting in corrective actions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with welders, engineers, and other personnel.
