About The Position

The Welding Engineer will be responsible for contract review, qualifying and maintaining Welders and Welding Operators, and developing Welding Procedures and techniques that align with customer requirements. This role involves performing contract reviews, analyzing customer specifications and code restrictions, and creating project-specific weld procedures. The engineer will oversee and guide Welding Inspectors, assist in preparing weld procedures, and qualify welders and welding operators per ASME Section IX/AWS D1.1 and customer requirements. The position also includes developing welding techniques, procedures, and applications for fabrication challenges, conducting research and development for new processes and equipment, and establishing welding procedures for production and welding personnel. The role requires evaluating new developments in the welding field, coordinating with welding laboratories for procedure testing, and contacting other personnel for technical exchange. Experimental welding may be performed to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials. Responsibilities also include maintaining welder continuity logs, performing surveillance checks on production welds, participating in job review meetings, and reviewing job instruction sheets from a welding perspective.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Welding Engineering or Material Science and Engineering
  • Minimum two years related experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform Contract Review, Review Customer Specifications and Code restrictions and develop Weld procedures specific to the project requirement.
  • Oversee& guide Welding Inspectors for Codes, Standards and Customer requirements, assist in preparing Weld Procedures.
  • Qualify Welders and Welding Operators per ASME Section IX/AWS D1.1 and Customer requirements.
  • Develops welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.
  • Conducts research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures, discover new patterns of welding phenomena, or to correlate and substantiate hypotheses.
  • Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post heating requirements.
  • Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.
  • Coordinates with the various Welding Laboratories to get the welding procedure tested and to ensure that the testing is in compliance with the applicable codes.
  • Contacts personnel of other agencies, engineering personnel, or clients to exchange ideas, information, or offer technical advice concerning welding matters.
  • May perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.
  • Maintain the welder continuity log per the applicable qualification codes.
  • Perform Surveillance check on the production welds to ensure the welds are in compliance with the welding procedure specification.
  • Participate in weekly review of jobs and other job-related meetings.
  • Notify the Production department about the performance of Welders/Welding operators every week.
