About The Position

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ensures that all Hanwha Philly Shipyard safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met Updates and develops PQR’s, WPS’s, techniques, training programs, and the application of welding equipment Develops, reviews, and updates QA Documentation to support Quality Management System Understands and implements applicable QA processes in accordance with the Quality Policy Conducts research and development for continuous improvement Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, and pre- and post-heating requirements Represents the Quality Director in all aspects of their welding responsibilities Provides close support and training to the quality control department along with Supervisors, Foremen and Managers as needed Acts as a welding mentor and trainer to shipyard personnel Ensures that the welding processes and sequences are documented in the building method and the welding teams are following the description Checks the effectiveness of our welding equipment, welding consumables, and recommends alternative selections in case of problems or special welding conditions Prepares technical reports in support of management presentation, procurement decisions, process improvement, research and development and preventive maintenance investigations Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes, and takes corrective action to remedy non-conformances Directs and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers’ compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification Maintains welder performance training record log to record all training given to the welder Perform other related duties as required and assigned COMPETENCIES Able to communicate and adapt effectively with all levels of the organization Professionalism and work in an ethical manner Leadership, Guidance and Integrity Decision making/Problem solving Willingness and ability to work individually and as a team member Ability to categorize and Quantify weld defects SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY This position has no supervisory responsibilities. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelors or Masters in Welding Engineering or related discipline 5 years of Welding Engineering experience in the field 5 years of practical experience and knowledge in basic welding processes; FCAW, SMAW, SAW, EGW, GTAW, GMAW Experienced in AWS D1.1, ABS & Mil Std 248 codes NDE Level 2 experience is preferred WORK ENVIRONMENT Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions. Hanwha Philly Shipyard is a TOBACCO FREE facility. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A range of motion sufficient to perform general lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, climbing, working at heights, extended walking or standing, etc. is required. Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters in Welding Engineering or related discipline
  • 5 years of Welding Engineering experience in the field
  • 5 years of practical experience and knowledge in basic welding processes; FCAW, SMAW, SAW, EGW, GTAW, GMAW
  • Experienced in AWS D1.1, ABS & Mil Std 248 codes
  • Able to communicate and adapt effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Professionalism and work in an ethical manner

Nice To Haves

  • NDE Level 2 experience is preferred

Responsibilities
