About The Position

As a Welding Engineer Intern at BPMI, you will perform welding engineering evaluations, analysis, and make engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks which may include a combination of several functions involving the design, fabrication, installation, and refurbishment of equipment. This opportunity will begin Summer 2027, working a full-time schedule (40 hours/week). Please note, this is not a remote position. You will be expected to come into the office for this opportunity. Our internship will give you the opportunity to work in your field of study while simultaneously pursuing your bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university. These opportunities can enhance your academic training while teaching critical business skills and allowing you to learn about BPMI, the Navy, and the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgical Engineering undergraduate degree program from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of four full semesters completed prior to your internship (~60 credits).
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is a requirement for security clearance applicants.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding and working knowledge of engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong oral and writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the review/preparation of welding and process instructions, standards, and specifications.
  • Prepare, follow, and report welding development programs.
  • Assist in providing welding engineering oversight of supplier processing and fabrication procedures.
  • Assist with analysis of welding conditions.
  • Troubleshooting and failure analysis.
  • Assist with in-service inspections and evaluations.
