About The Position

GM Oshawa is looking for a dynamic, experienced Sealing and Welding Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will lead the development, design, and execution of joining processes for Body-In-White assemblies. You will work closely with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and suppliers to deliver safe, capable, and reliable manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • Certified Mechanical or Electrical Engineer or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • Strong technical knowledge of welding, sealing, and joining processes in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with automated and robotic joining systems and related process analytics
  • Knowledge of resistance welding, MIG welding, clinching, sealing systems, projection welding, and self-piercing rivets
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to use data to drive decisions
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly in a fast-paced production environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical, operational, and supplier teams
  • High level of ethics, integrity, and accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to implement innovative manufacturing processes and continuous improvement solutions

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive manufacturing experience, especially Body-In-White joining processes
  • Experience supporting launch, production, and equipment improvement initiatives
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance systems, process control plans, and manufacturing operating systems

Responsibilities

  • Lead welding, sealing, and joining strategy for Body-In-White assemblies
  • Serve as process owner for resistance spot welding, MIG welding, projection welding, drawn arc stud welding, self-piercing rivets, clinching, and robotic dispense systems
  • Work with cross-functional teams and suppliers to meet build requirements, launch timing, and production targets
  • Monitor process performance using plant data and analytics tools, identify trends, and implement corrective actions to improve quality and throughput
  • Troubleshoot weld and joining issues affecting production, equipment performance, and vehicle quality
  • Support production trials, engineering changes, and new product launches to ensure process readiness and robustness
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement actions to reduce scrap, improve reliability, and increase line performance
  • Create and maintain process documentation, including control plans, parameter sheets, preventive maintenance plans, manuals, and standard work
  • Support capital and tooling projects, including equipment specifications, runoff, buyoff, installation, and commissioning
  • Train internal trades and provide technical support during emergency breakdowns and complex equipment issues
  • Participate in PFMEA, risk assessments, and control plan development for new and existing joining processes
  • Collaborate with Paint Shop and other internal teams to drive cross-functional corrective actions and support overall vehicle quality
  • Document lessons learned and apply them to future programs and build strategies
  • Prepare regular updates and report-outs on welding and joining performance, action plans, and key metrics
