About The Position

BAE Systems' Jacksonville Maritime Solutions shipyard is seeking to hire motivated entry-level Welders from our Trade School Partners. This position will support our Submarine program at the Jacksonville Maritime Solutions shipyard, with responsibilities in fabrication for submarine manufacturing. The primary tasks include welding newly installed structural members and plating, as well as welding re-installed temporary access openings. Additional tasks involve welding on a wide variety of materials using various weld processes, welding structural assemblies using GMAW and SMAW during fabrication and installation of submarine construction, participating in continuous training on traditional and new welding processes with both conventional and state-of-the-art equipment, using pneumatic tools, performing oxy/fuel pre-heat and carbon/arc gouging, verifying weld size, and reading/interpreting weld symbols, technique sheets, and work packages. All tasks require strict adherence to the company’s safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures. A structural welder should be able to read and utilize welding procedures and symbols, safely and efficiently use an oxy-fuel torch for pre-heat, use air carbon arc gouging equipment, use electric and pneumatic grinders for material preparation and weld finishing, use measuring tools and gauges to verify dimensions and weld size/quality, and utilize ceramic backing in various positions with semi-automatic welding processes. The role requires the ability to pass groove-weld qualification tests in all positions for multiple materials and processes, such as Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) of high strength steel and stainless steel. This position will be in support of Submarine projects and requires the successful demonstration of the ability to complete technical requirements outlined in NAVSEA mil std 1688, as well as obtaining/maintaining required access to a controlled site with additional clearance requirements.
