The overall objective of this position is to fabricate and weld lances, headers, showers and other various Lechler products. Must produce a high quality weld on stainless, mild steel, cast iron, brass, bronze and aluminum. Perform such welding on pipes ranging from 1/4” diameter to 30” diameter.

Requirements

  • Able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Operate welding machines, hand tools, drill press, manual milling and lathe machines.
  • Able to communicate effectively by verbal and/or written skills with others.
  • Able to work independently or with others to complete a task.
  • Able to take verbal and written instructions, complete tasks with little or no supervision.
  • Able to organize and keep detailed paperwork and enter data.
  • Able to interpret blueprints & instructions, use measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, thread gages, filler gages etc. and use material handling equipment such as forklifts, power lifts, jib crane, hand trucks and skid jacks.
  • Able to work with others in a team atmosphere and willingness to learn and train others.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years - Stainless steel welding experience with GTAW.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in the metal fabrication or similar industry working with fabrication equipment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • English: Read, Write and Speak.
  • Basic math skills addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, converting fractions to decimals, metric to inch, simple algebra, basic geometry, and simple trigonometry using a calculator.
  • Ability to recognize a welding / fabrication issue during setup and/or run and be able to make a reasonable decision on resolving identified issue.
  • Ability to identify problems, make corrections and take corrective actions.
  • Proficiency with Welding machines, fabrication equipment, material handling equipment, power-hand tools, band saw, buffing wheels, forklifts, power lifts, pallet jacks, measuring devices / gages.

Responsibilities

  • Follows work center schedule and instructions from cell team leader or management.
  • Scans in and out of operations for set-up and run.
  • Capable of producing high quality welds using processes that includes but are not limited to: GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), Plasma and Oxy-acetylene cutting.
  • Follow and produce product to blueprint or to customer specifications.
  • Responsible for various layout of work prior to fabrication.
  • Fabrication may include cutting pipe, drilling holes, milling parts or turning parts on a lathe.
  • Plasma or Oxy-Acetylene cutting can be required often.
  • Grinding, sanding and polishing of parts will also be required.
  • Keeps track of quantity of pipe, shapes and bulk material used, report any discrepancies.
  • Follows correct procedures to return excess of material or to report shortages.
  • Use proper straps, chains, and stands for moving and securing heavy parts.
  • Follows sampling plan, check parts to ensure they meet drawing specifications using calibrated measuring devices / gages and records measurements accurately throughout a run on inspection document.
  • Performs routine maintenance checks on welding machines and reports concerns.
  • Maintains satisfactory general housekeeping and organization throughout the shop.
  • Interacts with team members and other functional personnel in a professional manner.
  • Follows all safety policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Participates in continual improvement efforts / programs and 5S walk through.
  • Meets agreed upon goals and objectives in a timely manner.
  • Performs other tasks as required by management as needed.
  • Works as backup for other machining positions or other roles on shop floor as needed.
