About The Position

Railroad Friction Products Corporation, part of Wabtec, designs and manufactures brake shoes and disc brake linings for freight, locomotive, and transit vehicles. The Welder is responsible for operating a robotic welder to manufacture plate and insert assemblies. The role requires regular on-site attendance and follows a Friday through Sunday schedule from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to interface with computer- or iPad-based programming.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to meet the physical demands of regularly lifting and/or moving up to 15 pounds and standing, walking, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and extreme non-weather heat; ear protection is required due to above-moderate workplace noise.

Responsibilities

Follow all company-established safety and employment rules.
Load plates and inserts into the robotic welder fixture according to standard operating procedures.
Operate the machine and adjust process parameters as needed to ensure efficiency and product quality.
Perform equipment safety checklists and daily preventive maintenance according to the Safety/TPM program instructions.
Follow all 5S procedures, including Standard Work and Standard Operating Procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
