About The Position

The Welder I performs welding repairs and asset fabrication projects at both onsite and off-site locations. This position also assists maintenance personnel when required and performs minor repairs or component replacements while completing quality inspections.

Requirements

  • At least six months of welding experience, including the use of arc, Mig and stick welders, plasma cutters and acetylene equipment or possession of a Welding Certification through an educational institution
  • Must possess own basic tools or the ability to acquire tools upon hire
  • Must possess own personal welding helmet and jacket
  • Must pass a pulmonary function test if required by work assignment
  • Demonstrate a mechanical aptitude, as well as an aptitude for maintaining and repairing equipment
  • Ability to execute basic welding techniques
  • Familiarity with shop equipment i.e. drill press, cranes, grinders and saws.
  • Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
  • Ability to learn basic computer skills to communicate document daily work and progress, and track procurements and status
  • Always attentive to detail and alert to ensure safety
  • Ability to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers
  • Valid Class C driver’s license
  • Safe driving record for the past 3 years

Nice To Haves

  • At least one-year welding experience
  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Preventative maintenance background
  • Automotive shop experience
  • Knowledge of vehicle parts

Responsibilities

  • Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment when and where required.
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) tasks, including greasing and oil changes.
  • Learn basic mechanical techniques, torques, and procedures, train on vehicle components, and learn “out of service” criteria.
  • Assist with weld repairs and asset fabrication on and off site.
  • Document repair and fabrication projects and track time in accordance with department procedures.
  • Comply with company safety policies.
  • Attend monthly, mandatory safety meetings.
  • May be required to drive a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) not to exceed 26,000 pounds.
  • Requisition parts, as needed.
  • Report immediately any safety violations and correct unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Properly maintain equipment, including service trucks and trailers, safety equipment, and tools.
  • Other duties as assigned.
