About The Position

The Welder position involves laying out, fitting, tack welding, and welding various components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames and tanks according to blueprints and specifications. This role requires the ability to interpret blueprints, select appropriate equipment, and perform welding in various positions using gas metal arc welding. The position also includes operating cutting torches, performing grinding applications, repairing products through welding, and operating specialized tools like carbon air arc-gauging and plasma arc-cutting torches. Safety is paramount, and the employee must adhere to all safety guidelines while working.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend documents and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one and in groups.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several components in variable and standardized situations.
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with and use hands and fingers, talk and hear.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and balance.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Successful completion of a Weiler weld test.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months – 1 year related experience in a manufacturing environment and/or additional related education preferred.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, fit, tack weld, and weld cast, machined, forged, and fabricated steel components.
  • Assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, and parts according to blueprints and specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, process sheets, and welding procedure specifications.
  • Select equipment, jigs, and fixtures for welding.
  • Plan layout and welding according to blueprints, process sheets, and welding procedure specifications.
  • Position, align, and fit components together.
  • Bolt, clamp, and tack weld parts to secure them in position for welding.
  • Weld all jobs in any welding position using gas metal arc welding, both conventional and pulsed.
  • Set and operate a cutting torch safely and efficiently.
  • Perform finishing grinding applications using manual and power tools.
  • Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and/or re-welding.
  • Operate a carbon air arc-gauging tool safely and proficiently.
  • Operate a handheld plasma arc-cutting torch safely and proficiently.
  • Read and understand measuring devices such as tape measure, weld fillet gauge, level, square, protractor, and angle finder.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times, following all safety guidelines.
