About The Position

This role is on a Contract basis. The Welder will be responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment, complying with all quality, safety, and work rules and regulations. They will read and interpret blueprints or job orders to determine specifications of the job, with the ability to hold fabrication tolerances at +/- 1/16" (or better) being a must. The role involves setting up material such as stainless sheet metal, tubing, and other forms of stainless steel, performing tack or set up welds using a TIG welder, and utilizing measuring tools like tape measure, caliper, machinist square, protractor, and OD micrometer. The Welder will verify weldments conform to drawings and specs and make corrections as required. They will weld on a broad range of metals and alloys for complex precision assemblies, involving significant welding to high strength and pressure requirements. This includes welding parts, components, frames, and weldments per drawings, finalizing with TIG welding for a seamless end result, and accurately producing frames within required tolerances and squareness. The role also requires grinding and polishing all sharp edges on workpieces as needed, and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years' experience as a TIG welder with the ability to fabricate in a job shop environment.
  • Experience with steel or mild steel, material ranging from 1/16" up to ½".
  • Use grinders, saws, polishers, hand tools, power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints without assistance.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Able to operate a bending brake press.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure.
  • Leveling and squaring ability (without the assistance of others).
  • Ability to occasionally push/pull/carry up to 50 pounds by oneself.
  • Ability to bend and rotate body repeatedly.
  • Regularly required to stand for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
  • Frequently required to grasp, handle/feel objects, control/manage tools, and use hands/arms.
  • Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel and crouch.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Grind and polish all sharp edges on workpieces as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
