About The Position

Shuttlewagon, a Wabtec Company is looking for a welder. The welder will work collaboratively with others in similar roles to produce highly engineered, custom built mobile material handling machinery for rail related markets by using mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic assembly techniques as well as welding, electrical wiring and hitching on overhead cranes and jibs. As a member of the Components Division, you will be responsible for welding fabricated parts, components, or units at floor stations. You will test and calibrates parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications. You will also use hand and power tools to assemble units according to product specifications. You will be required to identify units that fail tests or tolerance levels and repairs as necessary. Team members may assist less experienced team members with knowledge and expertise.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to read and understand blue prints
  • Ability to operate a computer to read and input data
  • Ability to operate hand tools and read measuring devices
  • Ability to read and interpret 3D prints/schematics to complete standard work
  • Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management
  • Ability to hold themselves accountable for results
  • Safety minded
  • Ability to think critically and troubleshoot problems
  • Desire to win
  • Ability to read and comprehend procedures written in English

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5+ years in custom build shop preferred
  • 2 years of MIG experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Welding fabricated parts, components, or units at floor stations.
  • Testing and calibrating parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications.
  • Using hand and power tools to assemble units according to product specifications.
  • Identifying units that fail tests or tolerance levels and repairs as necessary.
  • Assisting less experienced team members with knowledge and expertise.
  • Following and complying with all safety and work rules and regulations.
  • Maintaining departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Fabricating small components.
  • Completing production and quality assurance forms.
  • Participating actively in team meetings and group discussions.
  • Interfacing with engineering to accurately communicate information.
  • Actively participating in continuous improvement activities or events as required.
  • Adhering to Quality Management System Requirements.
  • Following and maintaining 5S activities.
  • Reading and following standard work, BOM’s, blueprints, routings, specifications and other diagrams/instructions.
  • Obtaining necessary tools and equipment.
  • Handling material, tools and equipment manually or with jib crane, performing own hitching as required.
  • Maintaining high quality standards.
  • Consistently maintaining level of productivity as determined by management.
  • Preparing machinery for shipping.
