About The Position

The M GB MAINTENANCE Department of the M GENERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: NON-EXEMPT) JOB FUNCTION: Arc and gas welds various materials involved in the installation of power plant apparatus.

Requirements

Ability to identify and distinguish the difference between colors, including shades, hues, and tints. (for electrician related positions)
Graduate of Welder Apprentice Program or equivalent training and experience.
Must be certified under ASME Boiler Code (for Welder-Thereafter and Certified Combination Welder).

Responsibilities

Knows properties and weldability of materials commonly used in power plant apparatus. At "Thereafter" rate, is qualified under Boiler Code of State of Hawaii to arc weld carbon steel in power boilers and piping without back-up rings; performs both low pressure and high pressure welds in all positions.
Works from blueprints, sketches and written or oral instructions.
Arc and gas cuts steel and non-ferrous alloys. Arc and gas brazes and silver-solders steel and non-ferrous alloys. Heats machine parts for shrink fits.
Follows any welding specification, including preheating, post heating, and chipping.
Under direction or direct supervision, performs mechanical maintenance work on steam and diesel power plant equipment.
Does concrete work including the construction of forms, installation of steel, cement finishing of new capital construction projects, in addition to modifications or additions to existing plants.
Will assist Maintenance Mechanics and/or Diesel Mechanics as required.
Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.
Directs the work of personnel in lower classifications on any or all of the above duties.
Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
