About The Position

Welders use engineering drawings to build parts/equipment to the specifications on the drawings. This includes lay out, tack up, welding (GMAW and GTAW processes) and straightening as required to meet dimensional and quality specifications on material thickness of 20ga to 3/4" thick material. Welders will utilize additional tools such as clamps, pneumatic and electrical grinders, oxy-acetylene torches, etc. as needed. As a Welder, you will work in a dynamic, high-energy production environment to fabricate stainless steel equipment used in food processing. You will use blue-prints and engineering drawings to fit and weld assemblies and sub-assemblies.

Requirements

All applicants will need to pass a written and weld demonstration test appropriate for level of work.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and beginning computer skills.
Formal classes from college, trade school or military service helpful.
1.5 to 2.5 years of industrial welding experience and skill as evidenced by weld demonstration testing.
2.5 to 3.5 years of industrial welding experience and skill as evidenced by weld demonstration testing.
4.5 to 5.5 years of industrial welding experience and skill as evidenced by weld demonstration testing.
6.5 to 7.5 years of industrial welding experience and skill as evidenced by weld demonstration testing.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blue prints and procedure manuals.
Ability to write short routine correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively with other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, blue print or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
High school education, community college weld program, technical weld school, or equivalent experience.
Three years’ experience in welding fabrication.
Basic GMAW and GTAW abilities.
Knowledge of gas torch and plasma equipment, overhead crane operations, pneumatic hand tools such grinders.
Able to use fixtures, templates, stops and/or guides.
Welders at Key have experience in MIG, TIG, and TIP/TIG welding.
All candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and background and reference check.

Responsibilities

At all times safety is a top priority while performing any part of your job.
Read drawings and use fixtures, templates, stops, and guides as indicated to build equipment as required by blueprint.
Follow verbal and written instructions given by Production Supervisor
Measure component dimensions to determine accuracy of welding operation
Operate basic equipment with little supervision, i.e. pneumatic and electrical grinders, acetylene torches, and plasma torches, etc.
Lay out, tack up and weld simple equipment and components.
Assist other welders working on more complex equipment and components.
Demonstrate improving consistency in weld quality.
Demonstrate improving efficiency in meeting productivity expectations, as defined by actual labor hours compared against labor standards.
Identify and repair weld defects in accordance to quality standards
Make welds acceptable to standards for welding on arm brackets
Recognize and apply weld symbols
Demonstrated ability to meet productivity expectations, as defined by actual hours compared against labor standards
Demonstrated skills in using the stud gun process
Advanced blue print reading skill as demonstrated by acceptable completion of complex equipment
Demonstrated ability to support screen welding
Demonstrated ability to weld all vibratory and/or optical equipment
Works on complex assignments requiring independent action and initiative to resolve issues
Demonstrated ability to weld all items in a particular area and is cross trained in at least one area
Demonstrated ability and interest to weld any item
