About The Position

This position performs heavy shipyard construction welding in all positions using approved WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) determined by Hanwha Philly Shipyard and classification society. The role requires knowledge and proficiency in various welding processes, including FCAW, SMAC, SAW, EGW, Automated Welding Processes, Stainless Steel Fillet Welding, Padding and preparing weld joints per WPS, and Carbon Arc Gouging. The Welder must be able to interpret WPS, use and maintain welding equipment, work in a team environment, and perform internal quality checks. They must also maintain their individual NDT rejection standards. The job involves working independently according to valid instructions and shipyard rules, cooperating with team members, and adapting to different work environments and areas, including confined spaces and inclement weather. Additionally, the Welder may be required to orient, train, and instruct lesser skilled welders. This is an on-site, full-time, safety-sensitive position with varying standard days and hours of work determined by department schedules. Hanwha Philly Shipyard is a TOBACCO FREE facility.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and proficiency of heavy shipyard construction welding in all positions using approved WPS.
  • Knowledge, understanding and demonstration of interpreting approved WPS set forth at Hanwha Philly Shipyard.
  • Knowledge and ability on how to use all tools related to welding, including basic trouble shooting and maintaining welding equipment to assure a safe and efficient operation.
  • Proficiently demonstrate welding ability through performance, and testing as determined by vessel project and classification.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Shall perform internal quality checks of own work performance to assure quality standards are achieved daily.
  • Shall maintain their individual NDT rejection set forth by Hanwha Philly Shipyard and classification society.
  • Work Independently according to valid instructions and Hanwha Philly Shipyard rules and standards.
  • Flexible cooperation with team members.
  • Must be able to work in different environments and areas (e.g. indoors, outdoors, in confined spaces, on scissor lifts and aerial lifts, and in inclement weather).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all Hanwha Philly Shipyard safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met.

  • Utilize welding processes including FCAW, SMAC, SAW, EGW, Automated Welding Processes, Stainless Steel Fillet Welding, Padding and preparing weld joints per WPS, and Carbon Arc Gouging.
  • Interpret approved WPS set forth at Hanwha Philly Shipyard.
  • Use all tools related to welding, including basic trouble shooting and maintaining welding equipment.
  • Demonstrate welding ability through performance and testing.
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Perform internal quality checks of own work performance to assure quality standards are achieved daily.
