Summary
The Welder Technician, Intermediate is responsible for all aspects of refurbishing and repairing rail car components. This position ensures that all work is done in compliance with The Association of American Railroads, customer quality control requirements, and all company guidelines and safety rules are followed when performing duties.

Requirements

• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while ensuring attention to detail.
• Ability to use measuring equipment such as a ruler and other precision measuring equipment.
• Ability to work and communicate within a team setting.
• Ability to use machines and tools that are used for welding, cutting, gouging, inspecting, and testing.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and work orders.
• Ability to preform complex weld repairs in Flat and Horizontal positions.

Nice To Haves

• 3+ years work experience in a manufacturing environment
• Experience with the following welding processes: burning, air arc, and grinding

Responsibilities

• Establishes and maintains basic knowledge and fundamentals of The Association of American Railroads repair procedures and complies with The Association of American Railroads regulations, quality assurance standards, and Greenbrier Rail Services Environmental Health and Safety policies.
• Performs required refurbishing and/or repairs to rail car components using welders, grinders, cutting torches, air arching equipment, various gauges to inspect weld repairs and other tools related to the work process.
• Performs Dye Penetrant Non-Destructive Testing for material and weld repairs.
• Performs assigned tasks under the direction of Supervisor and department leader and notifies Supervisor or department leader of materials and/or equipment needed to complete job tasks.
• Performs special processes for repair or refurbishment based on customer work orders.
• Makes regular adjustments to welder and feeder settings as required for material being repaired and performs minor repairs to tools and equipment to maintain them in good working order.
• Wears, cleans and maintains air-purifying respirator welding hood.
• Interacts with Supervisor and team members in a team environment and assists in the training and coaching of new employees when required.
