This field role involves work at customer and job sites across the United States. Employees may live anywhere in the country and should expect extended assignments of three months or more. FlexTrades offers travel contracts lasting 2–6 months at manufacturing clients. The role is based on building large industrial furnaces, with openings for welders and pipefitters. Welders support fabrication of industrial furnace casings and housings, doors, internal furnace components, transfer cars, washers, motor brackets, cylinder brackets, handling hooks and ears, and other large subassemblies. Subassembly work is fixtured, while full furnace welds are not fixtured. Pipefitters install and assemble piping systems connected to fluids, hydraulics, pneumatics, combustion, gas trains, and other furnace systems. Most work involves black pipe, including cutting, threading, joining pipe, and fitting components. Stainless pipe work is minimal. Pipe sizes generally range from approximately 1/2 inch to 4 inches. Pipe larger than 2 inches is typically welded end-to-end; smaller pipe is generally joined with fittings, elbows, couplers, connectors, flanges, and reducers as needed. The role is primarily pipefitting, though some welding may be required for larger pipe joints. The job is located in Wixom, Michigan, and requires travel by personal vehicle. The employer provides a single-occupancy hotel room; family members and pets are allowed. Travel pay is $25 per hour while driving to the job location, and a $45-per-day per diem is provided seven days per week for meals and gas, stated as $315 weekly tax-free. The employer guarantees a minimum of 50 hours per week, with time-and-a-half pay for hours over 40. Listed pay rates are $32.00 for welders and $42.00 for pipefitters; the posting does not specify the pay period for these rates.
