About The Position

Lummus Ag Solutions, a global manufacturer of agricultural machinery, parts, and equipment, is seeking a skilled MIG Welder to fit, fabricate, and weld metal components and assemblies. This position interprets production drawings, sets up welding equipment, and produces accurate, high-quality welds that meet engineering specifications and manufacturing requirements.

Requirements

  • Two to six years of related welding education and/or experience, or an equivalent combination of technical training and practical experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MIG welding, metal fabrication, and component fit-up.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, written instructions, and production documentation.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and use measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry to fabrication and layout tasks.
  • Ability to follow instructions provided in written, verbal, or diagram form.
  • Ability to solve practical production problems involving several variables within established procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and small-group settings.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining quality and meeting production schedules.
  • Consistent attendance, reliability, and punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, shop drawings, production routings, and welding symbols to determine fabrication and welding requirements.
  • Fit, align, position, and secure metal components before welding, using clamps, jigs, fixtures, and measuring tools.
  • Perform MIG welding on components and assemblies used in cotton gin machinery and related agricultural equipment.
  • Set up and adjust welding equipment for varying metal types and thicknesses, including voltage, wire feed speed, and shielding gas flow.
  • Select the appropriate welding wire and shielding gas based on material specifications and production requirements.
  • Produce consistently high-quality welds in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions, as required by the assigned work.
  • Maintain dimensional tolerances of 1/32 inch where specified and verify completed work against engineering drawings.
  • Fabricate parts and machinery from plate, sheet, and other metal stock of varying thicknesses according to approved specifications.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes and transporters to position and move large or heavy components.
  • Use gouging equipment, plasma cutters, grinders, cutoff wheels, and cutting torches to prepare, cut, and finish materials.
  • Grind or chip rough edges, excess weld material, and scale to achieve required finishes.
  • Inspect welds and fabricated components for defects, alignment, dimensions, and overall quality; complete repairs or rework as directed.
  • Monitor fit-up and welding sequence to minimize distortion and maintain assembly accuracy.
  • Identify and report equipment problems, material discrepancies, and quality concerns to the supervisor.
  • Accurately record daily labor, production activity, and completed work.
  • Follow company safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment, and maintain safe welding and material-handling practices.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Collaborate with fabrication, assembly, engineering, and quality personnel to resolve production issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
