About The Position

This position is responsible for making repairs to equipment and making judgment calls to ensure road equipment functions properly. The role requires the ability to assess jobs and perform repairs in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Experience and considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of various types of heavy equipment and other power-driven equipment and tools.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to carry out complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to analyze and repair mechanical failures.
  • Ability to work effectively with the general public.
  • Must be able to work well with the operators, supervisors, and staff from other Departments who use County vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade school coursework/certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs major and minor repairs of gasoline and diesel engines, analyzing situations and making decisions on needed repairs or replacements to save costs.
  • Exercises good judgment in setting priorities based on need, parts, costs, and demands.
  • Keeps work area clean and maintains all safety standards as required by law and the policies of Benton County.
  • Road tests all vehicles and equipment to establish a working knowledge of their function and the effectiveness of repairs.
  • Travels to the field to assess equipment and make repairs, minimizing down-time.
  • Provides personal tools to accomplish necessary repairs.
  • Performs fabrication work on all equipment as needed.
  • Cross-trains in repairing and replacing tires.
