About The Position

The Welder Mechanic I is an entry-level position focused on the repair and maintenance of tank trailers and containers. The role involves hands-on work in welding, electrical systems, plumbing, insulation, painting, and general fabrication. Work is performed under direct supervision and requires a foundational understanding of repair techniques and adherence to safety standards. The work environment may involve heights, confined spaces, loud noise, fumes, and dust. The position is guided by a department supervisor.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic understanding of metal repair and fabrication.
Ability to read tape measures and perform basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to lift, carry, or move objects weighing over 50 pounds with assistance.
Knowledge of shop safety procedures and practices.
Strong teamwork skills and willingness to collaborate and learn.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with reading blueprints and engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

Assist in the inspection, repair, and servicing of tank trailers and containers.
Perform basic electrical repairs on trailers.
Repair trailer plumbing systems.
Repair support framing, insulation, jacketing, suspension, and fifth wheels.
Operate MIG/TIG welding equipment for basic metal, aluminum, and stainless-steel fabrication tasks.
Grind, weld, and patch tanks and containers under supervision.
Perform sandblasting, priming, painting, fender installation, and decal application.
Ensure trailers meet U.S. Department of Transportation safety standards.
Complete tasks efficiently and according to production timelines.
Maintain clean and safe work areas and follow safety procedures.
Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
Wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear.
