About The Position

SMS Equipment in Prince George, BC is seeking a Journeyperson Welder who takes pride in quality craftsmanship and safe work practices. In this role, you will play an important part in repairing, fabricating, and rebuilding heavy equipment that supports critical operations across the industry. You will work with Komatsu and other industrial equipment in a dynamic shop environment, applying your technical expertise to deliver reliable, high-quality repairs. This position is classified as an Individual Contributor role, requiring demonstration of core competencies (customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise). Requirements

  • Journeyperson Welder certification
  • Experience supporting the maintenance and repair of mining equipment
  • Strong commitment to safe, quality work in an industrial environment
  • Strong ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Experience troubleshooting equipment failures and supporting repair solutions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to delivering high-quality results.
  • Ability to meet customer site access requirements, including: Pre-employment medical examination, Drug & alcohol check, 5-year commercial drivers abstract, Ticket Verification.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, fabricate, and assemble Komatsu and other heavy-duty industrial equipment.
  • Interpret and follow blueprints, layouts, and work orders accurately.
  • Customize mobile equipment and components to meet customer specifications.
  • Perform failure analysis and support the development of welding repair solutions in collaboration with the Service Manager.
  • Complete structural and component welding repairs to established quality standards.
  • Provide welding support primarily in the shop environment, with occasional field service work.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area while following company and site safety requirements.
