About The Position

The Welder will weld, cut, and braze metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment. This role requires a thorough understanding of welding machines and tools, including their design, uses, maintenance, and repair. A basic understanding of design techniques and principles for technical plans and blueprints is also necessary, along with strong communication skills to interpret assignments. Basic mathematical skills relevant to welding tasks are required. Candidates must have completed a formal apprenticeship or a three-year in-company training program, along with at least 5 years of on-the-job experience.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
  • Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models and blueprints.
  • Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
  • Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship OR successful completion of an in-company, three-year training program required.
  • 5 Years of on the job experience.
  • Must have own tools: Welding Hood, Welding Gloves, Framing Square, Torpedo Level, 25’ Tape, Ball Peen Hammer, Center Punch, and Side Cut Style Plyers.

Responsibilities

  • Weld, cut, and braze metal pieces and products using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment.
  • Complete AWS certification 3G test using (FCAW) Flux Core – Mig Welding, for 1/8 to unlimited thickness.
  • Read blueprints using GIT tolerances and AWS weld symbols.
  • Operate overhead cranes using proper rigging techniques, forklifts, and drill presses.
  • Apply general understanding of AWS requirements for weld sizes, multiple passes, pre-heating, inner pass temperatures, and partial/full penetration welds.
  • Use oxy fuel torches to burn structural members up to 1” thick.
  • Follow all company safety rules and procedures, working in a safe and productive manner.
  • Lift 45 pounds in a safe manner.
  • Work at a high production rate in a safe manner.
  • Level and square parts while tacking into place.
  • Perform rigging and hoisting with an overhead crane.
  • Fix and rewire welding machines.
  • Lift and hold 50lbs and set it down gently.
  • Stand for 8-10 hours.
  • Climb up and down equipment to fit or weld parts, sometimes one-handed.
  • Perform MIG welding: dual shield flux core (95%) and hard wire (5%).
  • Read and interpret blueprints.
