About The Position

The Welder II joins, fabricates, and repairs metals and other materials using appropriate welding techniques. The role performs Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) on a diversified line of products, including close-tolerance, large, and small weldments, in accordance with applicable AWS welding codes and symbols. The position is based in Austin, Texas, and work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment.

Requirements

Strong understanding of TIG and MIG welding procedures and processes.
Experience working with steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and AWS welding symbols.
Ability to perform welds that pass visual inspection and destructive testing.
Ability to use measuring tools, including tape measures, squares, rulers, and dial calipers.
Basic math skills, including conversions and basic calculations.
Knowledge of welding machines and setup.
Ability to operate hand tools, air tools, and electric grinders.
High school diploma or equivalent experience.
Two-year vocational welding program or equivalent experience.
At least 2 years of welding experience.

Responsibilities

Perform welding activities with minimal instructions and supervision.
Interpret blueprints, manufacturing drawings, written work instructions, and AWS welding symbols.
Set up welding equipment according to the appropriate weld process specifications (WPS).
Complete weldments to applicable AWS welding codes and blueprint requirements.
Position weldment details using fixtures, jigs, tape measures, squares, rules, and calipers to meet blueprint, manufacturing drawing, and quality requirements.
Use material-handling equipment in conjunction with welding tasks.
Perform minor maintenance on job-related equipment.
Assume responsibility for and care of assigned tools and equipment.
Observe and practice safety procedures and policies.
Perform other duties as required.
Maintain attendance as an essential job function.
