About The Position

The Welder is responsible for producing metal components and assemblies by reading and interpreting diagrams, sketches, and blueprints to meet customer and LSI specifications. This role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining welding equipment—primarily using MIG welding methods—to support the fabrication of playground structures and related components. The Welder follows standard operating procedures to ensure consistent quality.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency in MIG welding, with the ability to pass standard welding tests.
  • Ability to read and follow diagrams, sketches, and basic to moderately detailed blueprints.
  • Understanding of basic weld quality requirements and ability to perform visual inspections.
  • Ability to set up MIG welding equipment and select correct wire, gas, and machine settings for routine welds.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow standardized work instructions and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work independently on standard welds and as part of a production team.
  • Commitment to safety, including proper use of PPE and safe machine operation practices.
  • Previous experience in a welding, fabrication, or manufacturing environment.
  • High school completion or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follows the LSI QMS (standardized work and documented procedures).
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives through the monthly department presentations, including newspapers, 5s, two second lean opportunities and understanding and participates in improving the LSI environmental impacts and aspects.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable standards: ISO 9001 quality, 14001 environmental, customer requirements, and internal procedures.
  • Adheres to all safety procedures (including participating in safety audits, following machine guarding and lockout/tag out, proper lifting techniques, etc.), PPE requirements, and reporting incidents (including reporting near misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately).
  • Read and follow diagrams, sketches, basic blueprints, and work instructions to weld playground components to specification.
  • Perform standard MIG welds and operate welding equipment independently according to established procedures.
  • Set up welding stations, prepare materials, and verify appropriate machine settings for routine welding tasks.
  • Conduct basic visual and dimensional inspections to ensure weld quality and part accuracy.
  • Identify and report weld defects, equipment issues, or documentation inaccuracies to leads or supervisors.
