About The Position

This position is primarily responsible for fabricating, fitting, and repairing steel equipment components. The role involves setting up and operating welding equipment to construct parts, measuring and inspecting components to ensure conformity to specifications, and supporting company objectives by contributing to metal shop production goals. The welder will also assist and train others, maintain inventory of materials and supplies, complete documentation, and maintain a clean and safe work area. Participation in company-wide quality and performance improvement efforts is expected, along with operating sheet metal fabrication equipment and cleaning parts as needed. This role performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years related welding experience and/or training
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Welder Certification Program
  • Expertise in analysis, critical decision making and process improvement
  • Capable of reading, understanding and following weld procedure
  • Must adhere to all safety policies and procedures in place at the facility
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to read and understand AWS welding symbols
  • Ability to read specifications, shop drawings, schematics and blueprints
  • Familiar with all related hand tools
  • Knowledge of and ability to read tape measures, Dial and Vernier Calipers, Squares etc. to perform in process inspections
  • Routinely lift 70 pounds but are expected to not lift anything over 50 pounds on a recurring basis
  • Specific vision abilities required: Close, vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Must frequently wear Trench Shoring Company mandated safety equipment (including but not limited to high-visibility vest, hard helmet, approved safety glasses and safety-toe boots)

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates all welding equipment to construct parts from components.
  • Measures and inspects all parts to ensure conformity to engineering specifications and quality standards.
  • Supports company objectives by using skills whenever needed to help meet metal shop production goals.
  • Assists and trains others in development of skills and adherence to quality standards, when requested by supervisor.
  • Helps maintain inventory of materials and welding supplies.
  • Completes quality and production documentation, when requested by supervisor.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area at all times.
  • Participates in company-wide quality and performance improvement efforts.
  • Operates sheet metal fabrication equipment, as required.
  • Cleans or degreases parts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
