About The Position

Pratt Miller, an Oshkosh company, is a product development firm in the motorsports, defense, and mobility industries, offering clients product engineering and low-volume production solutions. Their capabilities in research & development, engineering, prototype manufacturing, test & validation, and low-rate production assist customers in bringing high-quality products to market faster. This position involves working individually or with a small team of Welders, Fabricators, Designers, Engineers, and Mechanics to execute customer projects across motorsports, automotive, defense, and commercial industries. The role requires the layout and fabrication of metal weldments and assemblies, executing work orders, and processing materials. Familiarity with welding and other structural fabrication processes is essential. The Welder/Fabricator will use drawings, specifications, and/or verbal instructions, applying judgment and experience to plan and achieve goals. They will create fabricated products using hand tools, machine tools, and welding equipment, collaborating with other departments. The ability to self-check work, meet deadlines, document progress, and adapt to changing project needs with minimal supervision is expected. Close collaboration with shop management and a professional demeanor in daily duties are required.

Requirements

  • Proficient in both MIG and TIG welding of thin gauge (.035”-.125”) aluminum, stainless steel and steel.
  • Ability to operate hand tools.
  • Ability to operate a variety of machines in the shop.
  • Ability to operate a hydraulic brake press.
  • Must be able to understand and interpret complicated blueprints.
  • Must possess the ability to interface with other departments to accomplish tasks.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess the ability and maturity to perform in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Must be able to maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Minimum 5 years welding/layout experience.
  • Fabricator skills to include complicated layouts, shrinkage calculations, check & straighten capability, and should be able to direct a project.
  • Proficiency typically acquired through 5+ years of related experience in Welding/Fabrication.
  • Must possess own tools appropriate to the job being performed.
  • Must possess the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Must possess the ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
