About The Position

IGNITION MARINE IS EXPANDING! JOIN THE TEAM AT THEIR BRAND NEW LOCATION AT THE SHELTER ISLAND MARINA & BOATYARD! Are you an expert in metal fabrication with a passion for the marine industry? Our valued client, Ignition Marine, is seeking a Marine Welder / Fabricator to handle the fabrication, repair, modification, and installation of metal components and structures on pleasure yachts, commercial vessels, and marine equipment. In this critical role, you will apply your expertise in marine-grade welding and blueprint interpretation to deliver world-class craftsmanship. You will work closely with project managers, marine technicians, and vessel owners to ensure that all structural modifications and repairs meet the highest industry safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of welding and fabrication experience, ideally within the marine, shipyard, and industrial sectors
  • Experience with yacht refits and commercial vessel maintenance is required
  • High proficiency in TIG, MIG, and Stick welding processes, with extensive experience working with aluminum, stainless steel, and mild steel
  • Strong understanding of welding symbols, measurements, and fabrication techniques
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong time management and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet project deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Red Seal Welder Certification and/or CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) Certification are highly preferred
  • Certifications for forklift/crane operation, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, and First Aid

Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on aluminum, stainless steel, steel, and other marine-grade materials
  • Fabricate, repair, and modify structures including railings, ladders, fuel tanks, exhaust systems, platforms, frames, and custom components
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering specifications
  • Measure, cut, shape, fit, and assemble metal components using fabrication equipment such as plasma cutters, band saws, drill presses, grinders, and hydraulic bending equipment
  • Install fabricated components aboard pleasure yachts and commercial vessels
  • Assist the team with vessel haul-outs, refits, and emergency repairs when required
  • Conduct inspections of damaged structures, ensure all weld quality meets stringent marine industry standards, and strictly follow company, ISO, WorkSafeBC, and Transport Canada safety regulations
  • Accurately complete work documentation, time records, and material usage reports
