The Welder- Complex is responsible for performing the most complicated welding tasks to assemble metal structures and parts, including stainless steel, tungsten, aluminum, copper, and other specialized materials. The role involves using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments. This position requires adherence to safety protocols, precision in execution, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment to ensure the production of high-quality welded products.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or acceptable General Educational Development (GED)
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship program
  • 7+ years of demonstrated experience in a welding role in a manufacturing, automotive, or related environment.
  • Highly advanced understanding of welding techniques, metallurgy, and welding symbols.
  • Knowledge of safety standards related to welding and metalworking.
  • Ability to pass a welding skills test.
  • Excellent understanding of different types of materials, their properties, and the most effective welding techniques for each.
  • Understanding of welding equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of robotic welding systems and programming.
  • Knowledge of robotic welding setup and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with robotic welding software and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to perform MIG, TIG, stick, and flux-cored arc welding techniques.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting moderately complex blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Great attention to detail to ensure precision in welding tasks.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment and tools.
  • Excellent ability to identify and solve complex welding issues, ensuring high-quality outcomes and efficient operations.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and supervisors.
  • Skilled in using specialized equipment such as calibration fixtures, cranes, and hoists for large-scale welding projects.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the most complex welding operations, including the joining, fabricating, and repairing of a wide range of metal and weldable materials, particularly stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and tungsten, using advanced techniques.
  • Demonstrate expertise in welding various materials, particularly aluminum, ensuring joint surfaces are free of porosity, contamination, cracks, and undercut, and resolving any related issues.
  • Set up and operate manual and semi-automatic (robotic) welding equipment including MIG and TIG welding, including turntable MIG.
  • Accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, diagrams, specifications, and job orders to determine the appropriate welding processes and ensure the highest quality standards.
  • Ensure welding is completed to the required standards and specifications.
  • Conduct thorough visual inspections of welded services and structures, using advanced inspection skills to identify defects and ensure conformity with stringent specifications.
  • Utilize cranes and hoists for large projects.
  • Deburr pieces to create appropriate welding services when necessary.
  • Operate and program robotic welding equipment.
  • Set up robotic welding systems for production runs.
  • Monitor robotic welding operations and make necessary adjustments to ensure quality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with robotic welding equipment.
  • Maintain welding equipment in good working condition.
  • Move materials, parts, equipment and other items using material handling equipment (ie. Lifts, hoists, hand trucks. etc) ensuring safety practices are diligently followed.
  • Provide training and coaching to other welders, setting high standards for work expectations within the department and aiding in their career development.
  • Act as a welding knowledge expert within the team.
  • Record and report production data accurately and timely.
  • Participate in and identify continuous improvement initiatives to enhance welding processes.
  • Complete specialized welding tasks and special projects as needed.
  • Meet department targets and consistently adhere to quality and safety standards.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Attend in-person or virtual meetings as requested or required.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with others.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.
