About The Position

Granite State Manufacturing is a leading contract manufacturer of large, complex, precision machined and welded components, supporting the US Navy in building submarines. We specialize in high-mix, low-to-medium volume production, delivering precision, quality, and on-time performance on custom-engineered products. Our capabilities include large-format CNC machining, heavy fabrication and welding (MIG, TIG, FCAW, SAW), assembly, inspection, and testing, and program management for complex builds. We are known for handling tight tolerances, complex geometries, and demanding customer specifications. Our work environment is supportive, providing what our people need to do great work. This position fabricates and welds a variety of metals from sheet stock to heavy plate. Welding processes utilized include Tig-Mig-stick and occasional brazing. Work is performed using basic hand tools, jigs, fixtures, and precision measuring devices.

Requirements

  • Intermediate level knowledge of military specification, AWS specifications or other code specifications. May require assistance from other employees on spec interpretation.
  • Understands basic manufacturing principles and straightening but may require additional assistance for problem solving with weldments.
  • Understands workmanship requirements. Is able to pass workmanship test with additional training.
  • Understands all weld symbols and can interpret dimensions on prints. May need additional help on GD&T/Datums.
  • Knowledge of NDT and processes. Requires Level II for additional interpretation.
  • Can fixture weldments. Uses setups from previous orders as described in photos, procedures, and by higher-level welders.
  • Can weld using all processes used by GSM (GTA, GMA & SMA).
  • Can pass welder performance qualification test (welder samples) with minimal assistance.
  • Can operate manual vertical milling machines, saws, grinders, and overhead cranes with minimal assistance.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. Person under applicable export-control/ITAR regulations or otherwise be authorized to access export-controlled information under U.S. law.

Responsibilities

  • Works on fixturing weldments and creates tooling as required for new jobs.
  • Interprets blueprints, weld symbols, machining requirements, and datums to weld and create fixtures.
  • Works along with manufacturing, quality control, and engineering to solve problems with weldments or prints.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for creating a professional, safe, and clean environment evidenced by: being at work on time to perform assigned duties, following the policies of Granite State Manufacturing, always wearing safety glasses in designated areas, maintaining a neat and orderly work area, and following safety practices to prevent errors.
  • Demonstrates commitment to teamwork by establishing effective relationships and networks with both managers/directors and workers, and collaborating with them to accomplish shared purposes and goals.
  • Abide by GSM Code of Ethics and Business Conduct standards and strictly observe all U.S. and foreign laws and regulations.
