About The Position

ATC Automation is looking for a Welder Apprentice to join our Cookeville, TN location. The Welder Apprentice constructs metal components as specified in layout drawings, diagrams, welding procedures or oral instructions. Additional duties include cutting material, prepping for welding, drilling, tapping, fitting and assembling welded parts into complete assemblies. This is an entry level position with the capability to perform all welding tasks with direct supervision of senior welders. Reporting to the Business Unit Manager, the Welder Apprentice is assigned welding and associated tasks from senior welders. This position routinely applies knowledge of welding shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, maintainability and strength of materials, and layout techniques. Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • Knowledge of MIG and TIG welding processes.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Operate efficiently in a team environment and individually.

  • Ability to think clearly, quickly and make concise decisions with strong problem solving and math skills.

Responsibilities

  • Constructs metal components as specified in layout drawings, diagrams, welding procedures or oral instructions.
  • Cuts material, preps for welding, drills, taps, fits and assembles welded parts into complete assemblies.
  • Performs all welding tasks with direct supervision of senior welders.
  • Receives welding and associated tasks from senior welders.
  • Applies knowledge of welding shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, maintainability and strength of materials, and layout techniques.
  • Analyzes drawings and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Determines material specifications.
  • Cuts materials to specifications.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, and accessories.
  • Cleans and grinds as necessary to prepare for welding.
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions.
  • Verifies conformance of parts to specification using appropriate measuring instruments.
  • Inspects welds for flaws as per specifications.
  • May fit and assemble components.
  • May operate conventional machine tools.
  • May drill and tap by hand.
  • Works as a member of the Tooling and Fabrication team.
  • Receives work assignments from senior welder.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.
