About The Position
Silent-Aire Limited Partnership, a subsidiary of Johnson Controls, is seeking a Welder Apprentice for their facility in Nisku. This role is responsible for fabricating custom prototypes, jigs, and fixtures, as well as assembling metal structures according to customer specifications. The apprentice will work with supervisors and lead hands to improve work cells, meet production quotas, and perform welding using MIG, ARC, and TIG processes in a fast-paced production environment.
Requirements
- Registered as an apprentice welder in Alberta and enrolled in a recognized trade school.
- Working towards Interprovincial Red Seal or CWB tickets.
- Valid welding certification, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), certified in all positions.
- Ability to work under the supervision of journeyman electricians, as part of a team, and independently in a busy environment.
- Experience with routine maintenance operations.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Able to work well under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and review blueprints or welding process specifications.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment using various processes (GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, PAW, SMAW, OAW, resistance welding, SAW).
- Operate brazing, soldering, and flame-cutting equipment.
- Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears, and straightening/bending machines.
- Repair metal products by welding.
- Conduct technical inspections, repairs, modifications, and retrofits.
- Monitor parts usage and report material issues.
- Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
- Keep detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance, and repair techniques.
- Perform all duties in accordance with Silent-Aire Limited Partnership safety program standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and Code.
- Other duties as required.
