About The Position

The Weld Supervisor is responsible for communicating and cooperating with internal co-workers, other companies, sub-contractors and customers, being able to manage difficult customers, help create and sustain a positive company image internally and externally, create a positive working environment for everyone, maintain positive work ethics and attendance, maintain good housekeeping, actively lead and encourage participation at JSA Meetings, promptly report all incidents and near misses, actively lead and encourage participation in the HSE and Quality Good Catch Programs, be an innovator in safe work practices/equipment, regularly inform co-workers of the safe way to perform tasks, value quality over personal profitability, obtain, maintain and improve their levels in all NDE methods, regularly confirm Welding and NDE Procedures are being followed, regularly discuss and/or demonstrate ways to improve quality, have the temperament, skills and ability to train others, organize job site to run optimally, plan work two or more weeks in advance, regularly and on-time turn in Weld Supervisor Reports and KPI’s, assist with timely scheduling for 3rd party inspections, assist with correctly assigning welders based on their skill level and certifications, stay up to date on all inspections and testing, maintain weld and NDE material inventory, self performs and organizes 3rd party NDE on a timely basis, regularly encourage co-workers to reduce job-site consumables waste, deduce and implement safe and effective solutions, recognize future problems and implement preventative actions, seek assistance and clarification when needed, troubleshoot and maintain welding equipment, keep procedures reports and records organized and available, keep record drawings and checklists up to date, adhere and enforce company policies, travel as needed, use computer to efficiently manage project paperwork, become certified in all welding processes, be familiar with general construction of new storage tanks, vessels and structures as well as repairs. This role directly reports to the Welding Manager and routinely interacts with Erection Superintendent.

  • Compare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures, and objects.
  • Understand verbal instructions and written posted notices.
  • Comply with all written and verbally communicated safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform general labor on construction sites.
  • Work in confined spaces where respirators and fresh air equipment are utilized.
  • Maintain and use personal protective equipment.
  • Practice good housekeeping to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
  • Perform a variety of duties, which may often change.
  • Able to understand verbal instructions and written posted notices.
  • Capable of learning to read and understand basic drawings.
  • Able to visually inspect personal work activities.

Responsibilities

  • Know and understand contractual requirements
  • Inspect materials for correctness and damage
  • Consult with the Authorized Inspector or Customer Representative
  • Schedule NDE and notify applicable parties
  • Ensure calibration on equipment is current
  • Maintain records on site
  • Know and understand the WPS
  • Keep track of welder qualifications
  • Ensure electrode and consumable materials are properly stored and conditioned
  • Ensure proper fit up and cleanliness of field weld joints
  • Know and understand welder skill levels
  • Communicate WPS requirements to welders
  • Be able to demonstrate if needed
  • Check welder progress and assist where needed
  • Visually inspect each welders work and progress
  • Provide welding demonstrations
  • Encourage welders to achieve higher standards of quality and productivity
  • Participate actively in safety awareness and training.

  • Daily safety input through I Care, JSA, Good Catch, 5x5 programs, 360 programs
  • Ensures work meets drawings, standards, and codes.
  • Ensures and assists testing and NDE is current and properly done
  • Ensures all work is completed and signed off.
  • Be able to setup and perform all testing of tanks vessels piping and etc.
