About The Position

Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Weld-Operator Trainee, 2nd shift. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or a General Educational Development Diploma (GED).
  • Four years Fike experience with exposure to manufacturing, quality, engineering or operations, work orders, drawings and quality documents or two years welding experience with exposure to manufacturing operations.
  • Must be familiar with measuring tools such as dial calipers, tape measures, micrometers and squares.
  • Must be proficient in basic mathematical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates welding machine to weld a limited variety of light to medium rupture disc metal parts.
  • Handles and positions work with or without the use of fixtures.
  • Prepares metal surfaces for welding, section weld, uses chemicals and etches to perform weld penetration test.
  • Performs welding of various metals using gas tungsten arc welding process; electronic beam welders, fit-up structures and weldments for rupture disc and various other products.
  • Selects proper electrodes and holders, regulates amount of electrical current and speed.
  • Spaces number of welds in accordance with varying conditions and materials to achieve proper fusion, strength and finish without distortion and burning.
  • Follows specifications per procedure, blueprint or other documents specified.
  • Reads and interprets blue prints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specification of sample or finished part to verify dimensional tolerances.
  • Utilizes precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, comparator and others to check accuracy of work.
  • Performs in-process inspection.
  • May build rupture discs using hydraulic and air presses, punch presses and shears.
  • Performs helium leak tests, chemical etch marking and dot marking.
  • Visually inspects surface for defects and compliance with specifications; may rework as required by specification.
  • Communicates any hazardous conditions or situations that become obvious during the weld process.
  • Responsible for completing documentation such as work order, MPIS, procedures and other documents.
  • Enters work order related data into the AS400 and reports labor in DC Link.
  • May operate forklift in moving large items, pallets or bins.
  • Adheres to safety practices and procedures.
  • Follows procedures as defined by Fike policies, procedures and ISO9001 requirements.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required.
