About The Position

The Weld Equipment Inventory Specialist is responsible for monitoring, tracking, and verifying welding equipment inventory levels at buffer locations. This role identifies critical equipment shortages, issues replacements, and ensures all equipment is properly identified. The specialist also makes recommendations for inventory adjustments, transports equipment, and maintains the inventory database. Additionally, they conduct inventories of welding machines and consumable gases, perform pressure checks on gas cylinders, and prepare status reports. A key part of this role involves maintaining CribMaster vending machines, including reconfiguring bins and performing preventive maintenance. The specialist receives consumable gases, verifies quantities, and ensures Hazardous Material Manifests are present. They are expected to maintain a clean work area, follow directions, accept alternate assignments, and ensure timely delivery of materials. This role also involves loading/unloading vehicles with a forklift and acting as a mentor to other employees. Requirements

  • Two years relevant experience in a field such as warehousing, logistics, inventory control, or shipping/receiving preferred.
  • Possess problem solving skills.
  • Gain certification to operate a fork lift within 60 days of accepting position.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow safety practices as defined in Austal procedure SUP325 “USE AND STORAGE OF COMPRESSED GAS CYLINDERS.”
  • Ability to safely operate a 4 wheel RTV.
  • Certified to safely operate small cranes for the purpose of rigging welding equipment on pallets and containers.
  • Experience with computer based inventory system preferred.
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office products are required.
  • Must possess the ability to read, interpret, and comprehend written instructions, correspondence, and/or memos.
  • 18 years of age or older at time of application.
  • Able to provide proof of US Person Status.
  • No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date.
  • No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date.
  • Willing to submit to a drug screen.
  • Willing to submit to a background check.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50lbs on an occasional basis (0-33% of the day).
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 20lbs on a frequent basis (34-66% of the day).
  • Ability to bend, squat, crouch crawl and kneel.
  • Ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps).
  • Perform prolonged standing (2-3 hour intervals).
  • Ability to work at a variety of levels (ex. Waist, eye, above head).
  • Ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment.
  • Possess good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles.
  • Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment.
  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, floatation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards.
  • Ability to withstand extreme temperatures (cold and hot for 33 - 66% of work day).
  • Ability to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.
  • Ability to utilize adequate visual skills.
  • Ability to work at heights above 12' while working from ladders, scaffolding and/or man lifts.
  • Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side and reaching down.
  • Ability to perceive attributes of an object/material such as size, shape, temperature, and texture by means of receptors in the hands and fingers.
  • Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis.
  • Ability to turn body at the waist from side to side and about the vertical axis.
  • Ability to walk a long distance (2 miles daily).
  • Baseline hearing test.
  • Ability to enter 18" X 36" openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to pass a pulmonary function test (As required for task).
  • Able to recognize and work with hazardous materials including pressurized gas cylinders in excess of 2,400 PSI.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors, tracks, and verifies that welding equipment inventory levels are maintained to specified quantities at buffer locations on a daily basis.
  • Identifies critical equipment shortages by component and reports shortages to supervisor.
  • Issues replacement welding equipment/components to production personnel on a one for one basis.
  • Obtains signature of personnel receiving equipment on electronic wireless device.
  • Assures all welding equipment is properly identified before moving utilizing a color coded tagging system.
  • Makes recommendations for increasing or decreasing R&M inventory quantities.
  • Transports inoperable weld machines and components to the weld machine repair areas from the inoperable equipment queues in the MMF and Final Assembly.
  • Monitors inventory database quantities and types of R&M components issued daily while accurately inputting data into inventory management system.
  • Conducts welding machine and consumable gas cylinder system inventories as required.
  • Conducts pressure checks with gauge for all mixed helium/argon gas cylinders located in the empty cylinder storage areas to verify that gas volume is below a predetermined pressure level.
  • Identifies and marks empty bottles for return to vendor.
  • Prepares and presents status report on consumable gas inventory levels to Welding Equipment Inventory Supervisor.
  • Assures that consumable gas inventory levels meet estimated production requirements for MMF I, MMF II, and Final Assembly.
  • Monitors full and empty volume of consumable gas retained in cylinders by inventorying on a daily basis.
  • Reports to Welding Equipment Inventory Supervisor when levels fall below established base levels.
  • Re-orders consumable gas inventory via CribMaster.
  • Inspects consumable gas bottles for damage prior to bottles returning to supplier.
  • Maintains CribMaster vending machines, including reconfiguring bins for new R&M parts based upon quantity and size of the parts.
  • Conducts routine preventive maintenance on CribMaster, including inspecting moving components, checking for overheating, cleaning, and recalibrating the carousel.
  • Receives consumable gases when delivered from suppliers by verifying quantities and signing name to delivery tickets.
  • Verifies that "Hazardous Material Manifests" are present when consumable gases are delivered by supplier and forwards manifest to Welding Equipment Inventory Supervisor.
  • Maintains housekeeping and organization of work area.
  • Follows directions and accepts alternate work assignments to support operations while working under minimal supervision.
  • Ensures timely delivery of materials and support to the trades and Weld Repair Technicians with minimal direction.
  • Loads/unloads supplier and Austal company vehicles for delivery of materials as required with a forklift truck.
