About The Position

The Weight and Research (W&R) Manager leads the weighing and research across the organization, ensuring accurate freight classification and weight representation across all shipments. This role is critical to protecting company revenue by verifying that freight is classified, weighed, and billed correctly, while driving audit accuracy, operational excellence, and a culture of safety and continuous improvement. The W&R Manager leads a team, partners cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, and Compliance, and serves as the subject matter expert on NMFC classification standards.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, operations, or supply chain.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop a team to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Ability to effectively explain and document classification corrections to all parties involved.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to get along with diverse personalities.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication (written and verbal), analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry.
  • Knowledge and training of the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) provisions.
  • Weight and Research/Inspection experience.
  • Must have the ability to obtain working knowledge of CCFS system, policies, and procedures in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop the W&R team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead data-driven process improvement initiatives and research industry regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Monitor and analyze product, shipment, or weights for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Review inspection reports to identify potential issues and conduct cost-benefit analyses.
  • Ensure the company receives appropriate revenue on every shipment by facilitating accurate invoicing through inspection, dimensioner data analysis, and classification review.
  • Research commodity information using the NMFC for applicable description and class.
  • Review disputes from customers to determine the correct classification, if necessary, issue document corrections based on the applicable provisions from the NMFC.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, prepare reports, and present findings and recommendations to leadership.
  • Oversee operational performance to ensure compliant use of weighing and dimensioning equipment and established procedures.
  • Ensure functionality and certification of dimensioning devices and scales, coordinating with Facilities and IT to resolve equipment issues or compliance.
  • Collaborate with regional and service center operations teams to address personnel issues related to weight and research process compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with company and government regulations, upholding fairness, honesty, and a strong company reputation in every inspection.
