About The Position

Austin PBS, KLRU-TV is looking for a Weekly News Intern to join their team. This is an opportunity for someone with strong communication skills, who enjoys working with others and is interested in helping cover stories in an ever-changing local news environment. Austin PBS is a locally owned, community-supported PBS station in Central Texas. They broadcast thousands of hours of programming across multiple platforms and host hundreds of community events each year. Their mission is to educate, inspire, and entertain Central Texans through engaging programming and community events.

Requirements

• Current undergraduate student, must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program during the full duration of the internship
• Student must be available for a minimum of 13 weeks of this internship
• 15-20 hour weekly commitment

Nice To Haves

• Strongly prefer candidates majoring in journalism or related field.

Responsibilities

• Write segments for weekly news show
• Assist with studio production and field productions
• Pitch story ideas in weekly meetings
• Create new social media friendly content from existing packages
• Pitch and coordinate studio and remote interviews
• Staff remote shoots
• Perform other duties as needed
• Research topical issues and current events
