About The Position

This is a full-time position responsible for addressing safety concerns, performing maintenance and repairs on machinery and equipment, and contributing to the overall operational efficiency of the facility. The role involves troubleshooting, parts replacement, equipment installation, and documentation. The individual will also be involved in developing and maintaining a Preventive Maintenance Program and ensuring adherence to quality management system procedures and safety policies. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) with two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Address all safety concerns as the #1 priority.
  • Serve as a full-time member on the Safety Committee.
  • Visually inspect and listen to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunctions.
  • Dismantle machines and equipment to gain access to problem areas.
  • Inspect and measure parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems.
  • Remove and replace worn or defective parts of drive mechanisms or hydraulic systems.
  • Realign and adjust components such as spindles and clutches.
  • Locate damaged air and hydraulic pipes on machines, and measure, cut, thread, and install new pipes.
  • Start machines and equipment to test operation following repair.
  • Repair broken parts.
  • Set up and operate metalworking tools such as lathes, drill presses, or grinders to make or repair parts.
  • Purchase parts through the Purchasing Department and use the company credit card for approved company purchases with Plant Manager approval.
  • Assist the Mechanical Engineer to modify sketches or computer-generated designs of machine components.
  • Responsible for the installation of equipment (new, rebuilt, upgrades, part changes).
  • Perform maintenance repairs.
  • Keep track of essential paperwork for the Quality Department.
  • Review weekly maintenance forms.
  • Log daily work activity.
  • Call on outside services for routine and repair equipment maintenance.
  • Assist outside during inclement weather conditions (e.g., clearing walkways, spreading ice/snow removal).
  • Assist on the shop floor during a staffing shortage.
  • Develop and maintain a Preventive Maintenance Program.
  • Implement established maintenance procedures and record retention of documented maintenance activities as required by the UPM quality management system.
  • Follow all procedures pertaining to the work area, including the work instructions manual.
  • Responsible for the documentation of and proper training of employees in the area, including safety and work-related training.
  • Follow all safety policies.
  • Monitor supply levels in the work area and advise the Plant Manager to place supply orders.
  • Maintain good housekeeping; clean the work area at the end of each shift.
  • Turn off all equipment, radios, and fans at the end of the shift.
  • Follow all lockout/tag out procedures when working on machines.
